Beware of Government Grant Scams
Reported countries: India and Pakistan
Damages reported: $100-$2000+
Can You Really Get Grants Online for Free?
Representatives of the United States government DO NOT call American citizens with offers to give them grant money!
Usually operating out of India and Pakistan, scammers who try to hand out grants purchase consumer information from legitimate companies that run payday loan affiliate websites. The companies usually have no idea they’re dealing with scammers. Instead, they believe that the scammers can offer some of their payday loan applicants financial assistance.
The scammers can also get your personal details from unsuspecting advertising agencies, and target people in need of loans. They then contact the people from these lists and claim they represent the United States government. They advise victims that they can provide access to grant money for a “processing fee.” They require victims to pay through a non-returnable payment method.
The processing fee is just the beginning of the crime. Grant scam artists then use the banking information of their victims to gain access to additional funds, and/or sell the information to the highest bidder on the black market.

Advice
Block callers who offer access to grants for a fee. If you have been a victim of this type of scam your identity is at risk! I recommend locking your identity using Lifelock.
Personally
I was looking for ways to make money online and I came across grants. You cannot get a REAL grant unless it is for your education, an organization, or to help the community. They are not just going to give you free money to pay off your bills!
One time someone called me saying I was eligible for a $25,000 grant from a rich person who was giving money to people who needed it. I answered some of their questions, and at the end I was told just pay a processing fee so I could get the money. I never did it and I am grateful that I didn’t.
I ordered a new card and made sure all the information I gave them wasn’t going to come back and bite me in the butt.

Your Friend,

I can’t believe people from outside this country actually thinks that our government gives us money! What a joke! But I feel sorry for all the people in need scammed to death. I myself play around with them. I’ll make them think they got me and then just hang up.lol But I recommend to always report it because it could well be a crime ring!!
I love that you play with them lol, that’s awesome!
Karissa,
This is very important to note for people who get these calls – although it sounds sleazy from first blush, I know some of us might just fall for it.
It’s very sad how some decided to make money by making fake calls like this. Thanks for letting us know about this.
Cheers!
Absolutely! We need to warn people!
