Gmail lottery scam

What is The Gmail Lottery Scam?

Scammers have now hijacked the names Microsoft and Google. Some people are getting emails (including me) stating they are one of the 5 individuals randomly chosen for the month to win $500,000 and an Apple Laptop.

Do not respond to this email! They ask for your personal information that you should be careful giving out. They ask for these things…

  • FULL NAME:
  • HOUSE ADDRESS:
  • OCCUPATION:
  • SEX:
  • AGE:
  • DIRECT PHONE NO:
  • STATE:
  • COUNTRY:

There is no Gmail, Google, Hotmail, Live.com, Windows Live, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft, Windows 8, or Android lottery. Every month thousands of these email messages are sent out by scammers who try to trick you so they can steal your personal information. If you give them this information they have the ability to steal your identity .

Never send your personal information to anyone in an email message, and never send money to someone who contacted you through an email message. The email looks something like this…

Your gmail address has just won you 500,000 USD and APPLE LAPTOP for this month of 2014 Lottery promotion which is organized by GMAIL & MICROSOFT OUTLOOK LOTTERY INC and WINDOWS 8 LIVE

They say they only select 5 people as their winners, because they are active online and are subscribed to Gmail or Hotmail. They also say they select the people through an electronic balloting system, and the people selected do not apply for this.

They then congratulate you for being one of the people selected, and they tell you to contact the email below with your information. The email changes every time I see it, but an example is [email protected].

Gmail Lottery Scam Fees

Some scammers ask for an advance payment to cover what they describe as taxes, legal fees, bank fees, etc. They say they will pay out the winnings once that payment has been made. People who fall for this request lose their money, and never see any kind of “prize.”

If you receive the email that looks like what is described here, or have a similar fraudulent message, do not send them any money or give them any of your information!
