How To Get Free Images For A Website

Hey guys! Want to know how to get free images for a website (like the one above)? Believe it or not, there ARE sites that have free stock photo images that you can use and post on your website without any attribution required.

But first, you need a website! Chances are, if you’re reading this then you probably already have a website. But if you are just doing research and want to create a website, you’ll want to check this out!

With most photos that you find (like on Google, Bing, etc.) you CANNOT use them on your own site. If you do so without their permission, they can sue you for using their photo.

I don’t want this to happen to you, so please keep reading to find out how you should be adding free images to your website.

Pictures From Google Or Other Search Engines

If you find a picture on Google, you CAN’T just take a screen shot of it and use it however you want. It’s basically stealing. That is why you have to be careful when looking for pictures online to use on your website.

However, you CAN take screenshots of things to show proof of something. For example; If you want to do a review of a program, you CAN take a screenshot of their disclaimer, prices, education, etc., because technically you are creating the picture and just showing what they are promoting. You are also free to screenshot other companies’ logos if you are promoting or exposing them to show others what they look like.

If you like to take pictures on your own, then they are yours and you can absolutely use them on your website however you want without any worries.

What Is The Best Site For Free Images?

There are many sites you can use to find free stock images online for your website, but here are 3 that I use frequently. These are the best sites for free images in my book…

Pixabay

Pexels

Wikimedia Commons

In the video below I take you through how to use each of these sites and find images.

There are pictures on all of these sites that do not require attribution, and that are good quality. However, there are also pictures on these sites that you either have to pay for or attribute to the author, so you have to make sure the one you want is free to use.

It is harder to find good images on Wikimedia that don’t require attribution, but all the pictures on Pixabay and Pexels are free to use, and I can ALWAYS find good pictures on them! If you are looking for a specific image you just have to broaden your search to find it.

For example; If you are looking for a picture of a person on a computer, you could search “person on a computer,” or “person online,” or “using computers.” All pictures are under different keywords , so you just have to try every angle to find the image you want.

How To Attribute Images

If you find a picture that you really like and is free to use but you have to attribute the author, you have to make sure you do it correctly.

The best way to attribute a photo is by just putting text under the photo saying “attributed to (authors name).” That way the author will be able to see it clearly on your site. See picture on the right…

Attributed to Sundaram Perumal

Sometimes you have to do more when you attribute the author. I got this picture from Wikimedia Commons, and it explains what you have to do if you want to use the photo. With the picture on the right it says “You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.” If you click the picture on the right, it will take you to the license, and I didn’t change anything about the photo, so I have done my job with the attribution of this picture.

If it does not specify how you should do the attribution, you can just attribute the author in the description when uploading their image to your media file on your site. But the easier it is for the author to find the attribution the better off you will be.

Best Place To Buy Images

There are also sites where you can purchase images if you just want the BEST quality, and a bigger variety to choose from. The very best site you can go to find and buy great images is at…

Shutterstock

With Shutterstock, you can create an account with them and purchase any pictures you want.
